Getting Started
How do I connect my email account?
Go to the Connect page in your dashboard. Click “Connect Gmail” or “Connect Outlook” and authorize PayOwed. We only request send permission — we never read your inbox.
How do I import my existing invoices?
You can import via CSV upload on the Invoices page, or connect QuickBooks/Xero from the Connect page for automatic sync. Duplicates are detected automatically.
What's the difference between Solo and Studio plans?
See our pricing page for a full comparison. Solo adds Outlook, custom templates, and up to 50 invoices. Studio adds PayPal, per-playbook templates, and up to 200 invoices.
Email & Sequences
How do email reminders work?
PayOwed sends automated reminders from your own email account on a schedule you choose. Standard sequences run at days 0, +3, +7, +14, +21, and +30 after the due date. Other cadences (Retainer, Enterprise, One-time) are available on paid plans.
Can clients unsubscribe?
Yes. Every reminder email includes an unsubscribe link (required by CAN-SPAM). When a client unsubscribes, reminders are paused automatically and you're notified.
What happens if an email bounces?
Bounces reported through our mail service are detected automatically and the address is paused to protect your sender reputation. For emails sent directly through your connected Gmail or Outlook account, automatic bounce detection is limited — we recommend periodically checking your Sent folder for delivery failures and updating client emails in PayOwed if you spot any.
Payments
How do clients pay me through PayOwed?
Each reminder email includes a payment link. Clients can pay via Stripe (cards) or PayPal. You can also provide bank transfer details. All payments go directly to your account — PayOwed never holds your money.
What about disputes and chargebacks?
Clients can file disputes through the client portal. We notify you immediately, pause all reminders, and let you resolve the dispute from your dashboard. Chargebacks from Stripe are tracked automatically.
Can clients set up payment plans?
Clients can request a payment plan through the dispute portal. You approve or deny from your dashboard. Approved plans split the invoice into 2–12 installments with individual payment links.
Account & Data
How do I export my data?
Go to Settings → Data Export for a full JSON export of your account data (invoices, clients, activity, templates, payment plans, disputes, notifications, and organization settings). For reports, the Reports page offers CSV export of payments and aging data.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your data with cascading cleanup. Audit logs are anonymized (not deleted) for compliance.
Security
How do you protect my data?
See our Security page for full details. Highlights: OAuth tokens encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM), audit logs tamper-resistant via database trigger, webhook signatures HMAC-verified, and timing-safe token comparison throughout.
